The Down low on Daikon
Daikon radishes have long been acknowledged as a superfood in many Asian cultures.
It has so many talents such as:
Rebalancing the digestive system
Boosting the immune system
Gently cleanse the body
Other noteworthy qualities are its use in cancer prevention, reduces inflammation in the body, strengthen the respiratory and immune system which is increasingly important as we transition into fall, and to top it all off it may facilitate weight loss and improve bowel function. It has been found to reduce the risk of heart disease, regulate blood pressure, hormones and even strengthen the bones.
As Daikons are root veggies they are wonderful to incorporate as we too return to our roots as the weather begins to transition to the cold, “winter is coming” em I right, GOT pun intended.
Daikon radishes are spicy and warming and its color, white corresponds to the metal element and its yang fu (LU/LI). Its healing properties match both energies of Late Summer and Fall making it excellent to incorporate in the early days of fall right now as the weather transitions from warm to cool and back, until finding its balance in the full swing of fall. These organs energetically support the “letting go” process of both our physical form and spiritual state. Its the perfect time to let go and create space for what the season is to bring.
Daikons are incredibly easy to incorporate with a stir fry or even baking in the oven! Have fun with it!
Warmly,
Bri
