Sweet Potatoes

In Chinese Medicine the energetic properties of food are of the utmost importance. Their color and taste, when and how they are grown, how they are prepared and many other factors give us a lot of information on what they can do for us. As we approach the end of late summer, it is important to give the Earth element a little more intention. The color of sweet potatoes (orange/yellow) and its sweet flavor indicate its resonance with the earth element as well as its slow growing rooted nature. Aligning ourselves with nature by incorporating foods which resonate with the season is a wonderful way to bring intention and practice into your daily life, as well as nourish your physical form for longevity and change.

From a more western perspective sweet potatoes have a variety of health benefits including blood sugar regulation (if you’re a diabetic like me this is an extra special quality ;)), fiber rich, loaded with vitamin A,E, and C, as well as potassium!

Sweet potatoes can be incorporated in a variety of different ways, whether you want to make them into fries, a hash, or maybe even our favorite way, into a soup!

Nows the season for sweet potatoes! Get creative and enjoy!
